Seiko’s 5 Series wasted no time winning this week’s affordable men’s watch Co-Op, capturing over 45% of the vote.

These watches are available in a dizzying array of colors and styles, but all share water resistance, a day and date display, and an automatic winding mechanism that means it doesn’t require a battery.

I nominate the Seiko 5 SNK809, this is a 21 jewels automatic Japanese movement for at around $50. That’s right you get a legendary brand, automatic time proven movement and a fantastic easy to read face for about $50. Dress it up in leather, dress it down in a Nato strap. I’ve owned my Seiko 5 for about a year and it’s so versatile. It’s a great size for any wrist and I have no problem reading the time in full motorcycle gear night or day. - Rilver

Now and then I give Shep shit while buried in the greys for constantly pushing that crappy Timex when this Seiko is the clear winner. It’s a classy watch with a beautiful, QUIET sweeping seconds hand and automatic movement. It’s my daily wear and I love love love it. - MobbDizzle

If the Seiko is a little out of your price range, or if you prefer a battery-powered watch, the versatile Timex Weekender finished in a strong second position.

It’s just such a simple watch that works. All you need is one (or a few) watches, and some straps, and you’re basically set for everything but formal. I’ve got several nylon straps, blue with red stripes for the spring and summer, brown and black for colder months, white for the beach, and a two leather straps, brown and black, and I’m completely set for anything I’m wearing that doesn’t involve a tie and lapels. Ivory face and navy face are all I’ve ever needed. And all told, I’ve spent significantly less on my Weekenders and straps than I have on my one dress watch. - Will-Ravel
